Mary Connelly was born in Glasgow about 1849 to Ellen Benson (c1822 - 1881) and John Connelly (c1822 - 1869). [See Section CN-5-1 for family background.]
1871 On Thursday, February 16, Edward Watson and Mary Connelly were married at Eastmuir, Shettleston After Banns According to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.10 at Shettleston on February 18.
Edward was a Bachelor, gave his age as 21, occupation Coal Miner and usual residence Eastmuir, Shettleston Parish. His parents are recorded as William Watson, Coal Miner and Mary Watson m.s. Irvine, Deceased.
Mary was a Spinster, gave her age as 21, occupation Bleachfield Worker and usual residence Eastmuir, Shettleston Parish. Her parents are recorded as John Connelly, Coal Miner, Deceased and Helen Connelly m.s. Benson.
The celebrant was P McLaughlin, Pastor of St Paul's Rom. Cath. Church, Eastmuir and the witnesses were James McRory and Ellen Connelly [probably Mary's sister].
The marriage is noted in the Register of Marriages in St Paul's, Eastmuir where the best man's surname appears to be McGroary.

1872 Helen Watson was born at 2h30m a.m. on Tuesday, January 23 at No.5 Squares Court, Eastmuir St., Shettleston, Lanarkshire to Mary Watson m.s. Connelly and Edward Watson, Coal Miner who married in Shettleston Parish on February 16, 1871. Her birth was registered No.15 at Shettleston on the following day by Edward Watson, Father.
She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Eastmuir on January 28 with sponsors James McCrory and Helen Connelly.
1874 Annie Watson was born at 4h a.m. on Friday, January 30 at 64 Berryhill Rows, Wishaw to Mary Watson m.s. Connelly and Edward Watson, Coalminer who married on January [sic] 16, 1871 in Barony, Glasgow. Her birth was registered No.124 at Wishaw on February 5 by Edward Watson, Father.
Annie married Owen Hayes in 1896.
1876 Mary Watson was born at 12h noon on Monday, March 27 at 35 Berryhill Rows, Wishaw to Mary Watson m.s. Connelly and Edward Watson, Coalminer who married on January [sic] 16, 1871 in Barony, Glasgow. Her birth was registered No.300 at Wishaw on April 4 by Edward Watson, Father.
1878 William Watson was born at 2h0m p.m. on Monday, June 10 at 6 Berryhill Rows, Wishaw to Mary Watson m.s. Connolly and Edward Watson, Coalminer who married on February 16, 1871 in Barony. His birth was registered No.455 at Wishaw on July 1 by Edward Watson, Father.
1881 April 3 The family were living at 134 Eastmuir Street in a house with two windowed rooms.

She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Shettleston on October 3 with sponsor Mrs Helen McMahon [her maternal grandmother].
1884 Catherine Watson was born at 8h0m a.m. on Thursday, July 10 at Eastmuir Street, Shettleston to Mary Watson m.s. Connolly and Edward Watson, Coal Miner who married on February 16, 1871 in Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.197 at Shettleston on July 15 by Edward Watson, Father.
1887 Edward Watson, Coal Miner, married to Mary Connolly died at 1h0m p.m. on Tuesday, January 11 at No.1 Pit, Burntbroom Colliery, Mount Vernon (usual residence Eastmuir), age 35 years, Accidentally Killed in Pit, as certified by George Willis, Surgeon. His parents are recorded as William Watson, Coal Miner and Ann Watson m.s. Doyen, both deceased. [His mother was Mary Irvine on his marriage registration.] His death was registered No.9 at Baillieston on the same day by Francis Watson, Brother.
