The Australian Connection — Aunt Maggie

Margaret Dunne was born about 1858 in Cashel, Ireland to Edmund Dunne, Carpenter, and Margaret Tobin. She was in Australia by 1878 when John Dunne married Margaret Cashen, and was a housemaid at the time of her marriage.

Murdoch McKenzie was born about 1860 in Geelong, Victoria to Alexander McKenzie, Farmer, and Marion Bruce. At the time of his marriage, he was a farmer in Corowa, NSW (across the Murray River from Rutherglen).

They married in St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne on July 3, 1901. The witnesses were John Alexander Mckenzie (father of Sergeant Ed McKenzie) and Mary Louisa Dunne (Uncle Ned's wife).

They seem to have had a son (Brennie or Bren so probably Brendan) and rumour has it a daughter.

Why A.E.Bennett should be referred to as "Pa" I do not know and fear to ask.

Ed McKenzie visited Lena in February 1919 in the company of C.B.MacKenzie of Paisley who in the previous two years sent several postcards discussing visiting Australian soldiers. Both signed Aunt Lena's Autograph Book.
