The Family of Isaac Allan & Hannah Keers, 1863

This appears to be the brother of Helen Allan, mother of Mary Lafferty who married Ritchie Reynolds in 1873.

Isaac Allan was born about 1840 in Ireland to Mary Ann Williamson ( - before 1864) and Isaac Allan, Labourer ( - ). [See Section AL-4-1 for family background.]

Hannah Keers was born about 1844 in Ireland to Mary Ann McWhirter ( - ) and James Keers, Coal Miner ( - ).

1861 April 7 A search for Isaac Allan in the census index for Lanarkshire turned up only two entries, a 38 year old in Calton, Glasgow and a 21 year old living on his own in Pollockshill (on the A775 just this side of Newhouse) in a house with one windowed room.

Given later events, this is probably the Isaac Allan who was allegedly 14 in the 1851 census. (Unless that's the wrong family!)

1864 On Friday, April 29, Isaac Allan and Hannah Keers were married at Johnston Vale [I think that's Johnstonhall on the map], Parish of Bothwell after Banns according to the Forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The marriage was registered No.22 at Holytown on May 2.

Isaac was a Bachelor, gave his age as 24, occupation Labourer at Colliery and usual residence Johnston Vale. His parents are recorded as Isaac Allan, Labourer at Iron Works and Mary Ann Allan m.s. Williamson (deceased).

Hannah was a Spinster, gave her age as 19, occupation Farm Labourer and usual residence also Johnston Vale. Her parents are recorded as James Keers, Coalminer and Margaret Ann Keers m.s. McWharter.

The officiating minister was Alexander Stewart and the witnesses were John Allan [possibly Isaac's brother] and Sarah Armstrong.

Isaac, Hannah and John made their marks, Sarah signed.

Isaac and Hannah had the following children (that I know of) —
