John McCafferty was born about 1860 in Shotts to Margaret Shearin (c1830 - 1908) and Patrick McCafferty, Coal Miner (c1827 - 1885). [See Section MC-6-1 for family background.]
1890 John McCafferty and Sarah Houston were married on Tuesday, November 18, at the RC Chapel, Cleland [St Mary's] after Banns etc. The marriage was registered No.30 at Cleland, West District of Shotts on November 21.
John was a Bachelor, gave his age as 30, occupation Brick Moulder and usual residence 51 Omoa Square, Shotts Parish. His parents are recorded as Patrick McCafferty, Sawyer (deceased) and Margaret McCafferty m.s. Shearin.
Sarah was a Spinster, gave her age as 20 (she was 18), occupation Brickfield Worker and usual residence Omoa Square, Shotts Parish. Her parents are recorded as Cornelius Houston, Coalminer and Sarah Houston m.s. Reynolds.
The celebrant was John Cameron and the witnesses were Daniel Welsh and Elizabeth Reilly. John and Sarah made their marks, the witnesses signed their names.
John and Sarah had the following children (that I know of) —

Thomas born in 1895 at 49 Omoa Square, Cleland, last sighting 1911. Sarah born in 1898 at 49 Omoa Square, Cleland, last sighting 1911. Francis (2) born in 1900 at 47 Omoa Quare, Cleland, last sighting 1929. Bernard born in 1902 at 49 Omoa Square, Cleland and died in 1910. Margaret born in 1904 at 49 Omoa Square, Cleland, last sighting 1911. which tallies with the 1911 census count.
1891 April 5 John and Sarah were living at 98 Omoa Square in a house with one windowed room.

1892 John McCafferty was born at 12h0m p.m. on Monday, July 9 at 79 Omoa Square, Shotts Parish to Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston and John McCafferty, Brickworker who married on November 18, 1891 [sic] at Cleland, Shotts Parish. His birth was registered No.86 at Cleland on July 28 by Sarah McCafferty, "her X mark", Mother.
1894 Francis McCafferty was born at 12h noon on Wednesday, February 21 at Spoutscroft, Shotts Parish to Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston and John McCafferty, Brickmoulder who married on November 18, 1890 at Cleland, Shotts Parish. His birth was registered No.22 at Cleland on March 12 by John McCafferty, "his X mark", Father.
Sadly, Francis died in 1900, the day before his sixth birthday.
1895 Thomas McCafferty was born at 11h0m a.m. on Friday, December 20 at 49 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts to Sarah McCafferty m.s. Heuston and John McCafferty, Quarryman who married on November 18, 1890 in the West District of Shotts. His birth was registered No.3 at Cleland on January 10, 1896 by Sarah McCafferty, "her X mark", Mother.
1898 Sarah McCafferty was born at 4h0m p.m. on Saturday, May 21 at 49 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts to Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston and John McCafferty, Quarryman who married on November 18, 1890 in the West District of Shotts. Her birth was registered No.61 at Cleland on June 10 by John McCafferty, Father.
1900 Francis McCafferty (Single) died at 7h0m p.m. on Tuesday, February 20 at 47 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts, age 6 years, of Bronchitis, Valular Disease of Heart after 14 days, as certified by John Lithgow, M.D. His parents are recorded as John McCafferty, Quarryman and Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston. His death was registered No.14 at Cleland on the following day by John McCafferty, "his X mark", Father, Present.
1900 A second Francis McCafferty was born at 8h0m a.m. on Thursday, May 24 at 47 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts to Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston and John McCafferty, Coal Miner who married on November 18, 1890 in the West District of Shotts. His birth was registered No.76 at Cleland on June 15 by John McCafferty, "his X mark", Father, Present.
1901 March 31 The family were living at 47 Omoa Square in a house with one windowed room.

Compared with the 1911 census, I suspect that Frank should be Thomas and Thomas should be the second Francis.
John's mother is still at 51 Omoa Square where she now has two windowed rooms,
and his brother Francis and family are at 52 Omoa Square, also with two windowed rooms.
1902 Bernard McCafferty was born at 6h0m p.m. on Saturday, December 27 at 49 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts to Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston and John McCafferty, Coalminer who married on November 28 [sic], 1890 in the West District of Shotts. His birth was registered No.5 at Cleland on January 16, 1903 by John McCafferty, "his X mark", Father.
1904 John McCafferty, Quarryman, Married to Sarah Houston, died at 11h40m a.m. on Monday, April 11 at Omoa Square, West District of Shotts, age 44 years, of Cerebral Tumour, 1½ months, as certified by John Lithgow, M.D. His parents are recorded as Patrick McCafferty, Sawyer (deceased) and Margaret McCafferty m.s. Shearon. His death was registered No.24 at Cleland on the same day by Francis McCafferty, "his X mark", Brother, Omoa Square, Present.
1904 Margaret McCafferty was born at 3h0m p.m. on Monday, December 19 at 49 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts to Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston and John McCafferty, Coalminer (deceased) who married on November 19 [sic], 1890 in the West District of Shotts. Her birth was registered No.5 at Cleland on January 9, 1905 by Sarah McCafferty, "her X mark", Mother.
1905 John McCafferty (Single) died at 7h50m p.m. on Friday, October 27 at 45 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts, age 13 years, of Tubercular disease of glands in neck + abdomen, as certified by John Lithgow, M.D. His parents are recorded as John McCafferty, Coalminer (deceased) and Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston. His death was registered No.77 at Cleland on the following day by Francis McCafferty, Uncle, 52 Omoa Square.
1910 Bernard McCafferty (Single) died at 7h0m a.m. on Saturday, January 8 at 27 Omoa Square, Cleland, age 7 years, of Acute Tubercular Cerebral Meningitis after 7 days, as certified by John Lithgow, M.D. His parents are recorded as John McCafferty, Coalminer (deceased) and Sarah McCafferty m.s. Houston. His death was registered No.5 at Cleland on the same day by Patrick McCafferty, Brother, Present.
1911 April 2 The family were living at 44 Omoa Square in a house with one windowed room.

The remnant of John's brother Francis and family were not far away at 128 Omoa Square.
1929 Sarah McCafferty, widow of John McCafferty, Quarryman, died at 3h30m on Saturday, May 25 at 10 Ravenshall Cottages, Omoa Road, Cleland, aged 57, of (a) Acute Myocarditis, (b) Oedema as certified by J.W. Wylie, LRCP + LRCS (Ed.), LRCP + LRCS (Glas). Her parents are recorded as Cornelius Houston, Coal Miner and Sarah Houston m.s. Reynolds, both deceased. Her death was registered No.56 at Cleland on the same day by Francis McCafferty, Son, Present.
