Ellen Lafferty was born about 1862 in Bothwell Parish to Elizabeth Spiers (c1826 - ) and James Lafferty, Coal Miner (c1825 - before 1906). [See Section LY2-6-1 for family background.] She died in Cleland in 1906.
1884 On Thursday, February 21, Francis McCafferty and Ellen Lafferty were married at the R.C. Chapel, Cleland [St. Mary's], Shotts Parish after Banns according to the Forms of the R.C. Church. The marriage was registered No.5 at Cleland on February 23.
Francis was a Bachelor, gave his age as 25 [he was 26], occupation Quarryman and usual residence Auchinlee, Shotts Parish. His parents are recorded as Patrick McCafferty, Sawyer and Margaret McCafferty m.s. Shearin.
Ellen was a Spinster, gave her age as 22, occupation Brickfield Worker and usual residence also Auchinlee, Shotts Parish. Her parents are recorded as James Lafferty, Pithead Labourer and Elizabeth Lafferty m.s. Spiers.
The celebrant was John Hughes and the witnesses were Henry McGeoch and Mary Donnelly.

1886 Patrick McCafferty was born at 3h30m a.m. on Monday, June 14 at Spoutscroft, Shotts Parish to Ellen McCafferty m.s. Lafferty and Francis McCafferty, Quarryman who married in February, 1884 in Cleland, Shotts Parish. His birth was registered No.45 at Cleland on June 28 by Francis McCafferty, "his X mark", Father, Present.
1888 James McCafferty was born at 1h15m a.m. on Thursday, May 17 at Spoutscroft, Shotts Parish to Helen McCafferty m.s. Lafferty and Francis McCafferty, Quarryman who married on February 21, 1884 in Cleland, Shotts Parish. His birth was registered No.55 at Cleland on June 4 by Francis McCafferty, "his X mark", Father, Present.
1891 April 5 The family were living at No.4 Spoutscroft [by Greenhill, north east of Auchinlee] in a house with one windowed room.

1906 Ellen McCafferty, Married to Francis McCafferty, Quarryman, died at 11h15m a.m. on Thursday, December 13 at 52 Omoa Square, West District of Shotts, age 43 years, of Epilepsy, 6 years, as certified by John Lithgow, M.D. Her parents are recorded as James Lafferty [not ours], Coalminer (deceased) and Elizabeth McCafferty m.s. Speirs. Her death was registered No.91 at Cleland on the same day by Francis McCafferty, "his X mark", Widower, Present.
1910 On Friday, April 1, Patrick McCafferty and Margaret Brown were married at the Roman Catholic Chapel, Cleland [St. Mary's], Shotts Parish after Banns and Publication according to the Forms of the R.C. Church. The marriage was registered No.18 at Cleland on April 2.
Patrick was a Bachelor, age 24, occupation Coalminer and usual residence Ravenshall Cottages, Parish of Bothwell. His parents are recorded as Francis McCafferty, Coalminer and Ellen McCafferty m.s. Lafferty (deceased).
Margaret was a Spinster, gave her age as 20, no occupation recorded and usual residence Omoa Road, Cleland. Her parents are recorded as Alexander Brown, Pottery Worker and Marion Brown m.s. Hunter.
The celebrant was Peter Murray and the witnesses were Patrick Nolan and Katie Larkin.
1910 Ellen McCafferty was born at 3h a.m. on Thursday, June 16 at Pottery Buildings, Cleland to Margaret McCafferty m.s. Brown and Patrick McCafferty, Coal Miner who married on April 1, 1910 in Shotts West [District]. Her birth was registered No.340 [in Holytown District] at Shotts on the same day by Patrick McCafferty, Father.
[Note :– A Holytown registration registered at Shotts? That's what it says. All entries a couple of pages either side were registered at Holytown. A mistake by the registrar? or was he having a day out to the Shotts and took his registers with him?]
1911 April 2 The remnant of Francis and family were living at 128 Omoa Square in a house with one windowed room.
