1853 Margaret McArron was born on Friday, January 21 and baptised on February 7 by Fr. Michael O'Keeffe in the parish of St. Patrick's, Coatbridge with sponsors Bernard Martin and Ann McAroon.


1855 Patrick McIloon was born at 5h30m p.m. on Friday, November 9 at 45 Long Row, Gartsherrie to Isabella McIloon m.s. Martin and John McIloon, Furnaceman who married in 1841 in County Donegal, Ireland and had 2 boys and 2 girls living. His birth was registered No.655 at Old Monkland [Middle District] on November 19 by Bernard Martin, "his X mark", Uncle, Collier, 8 Summerlee Square, Not Present.

John was aged 35, born in County Donegal, Ireland

Isabella was aged 35, born in County Donegal and Patrick was her fifth child.

Patrick was baptised (as Patrick McAloone) on November 11 by Fr. Michael O'Keeffe in the parish of St. Patrick's, Coatbridge with sponsors Bernard Martin and Anne Kenna.


1858 Thomas McAloon was born at 8h30m p.m. on Sunday, July 18 at 11 South Row, Summerlee to Isabella McAloon m.s. Martin and John McAloon, Furnace Filler. His birth was registered No.476 at Old Monkland [Middle District] on July 26 by John McAloon, Father, Present.

He was baptised (as Thomas McIlhane) on July 25 by Fr. John O'Dwyer in the parish of St. Patrick's, Coatbridge with sponsors Bernard Kerr and Margaret Crole.


1861 April 7 Nothing obvious in the census index.


1865 Isabella McAloon, Married to John McAloon, Furnaceman, died at 6h a.m. on Wednesday, October 18 at 15 South Row, Summerlee, age 48 years, of Inflamation of Alema after 11 days, as certified by Jas. Wilson, Surgeon. Her parents are recorded as Bernard Martin, Farmer (deceased) and Ann Martin m.s. Timmony. Her death was registered No.334 at Old Monkland [Middle District] on the same day by John McAloon, Widower, Present.


1871 April 2 The family were living at No.20 West Row [beside Merryston Square], Summerlee, Coatbridge in a house with one windowed room.

1871 On Wednesday, November 22, Edward Kelly and Margaret McAloon were married at Coatbridge after Banns according to the Forms of the Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.127 at Coatbridge on November 24.

Edward was a Bachelor, gave his age as 25, occupation Furnace Filler and usual residence Gartsherrie. His parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Farmer (deceased) and Mary Kelly m.s. Harkin.

Margaret was a Spinster, age 18, occupation Domestic Servant and usual residence Summerlee. Her parents are recorded as John McAloon, Furnace Filler and Isabella McAloon m.s. Martin (deceased).

The celebrant was Michael O'Keeffe, C.C. and the witnesses were Felix McEwan [McCain?] and Margaret Differ.

The bride and groom signed, the witnesses made their marks.

The marriage is noted in the Register of Marriages in St. Patrick's, Coatbridge. [Index entry]


1881 April 3 This appears to be John and Patrick living at 14 South Row, Summerlee in a house with two windowed rooms.
