Francis Carty was born about 1841 in Ireland to Mary Melvin ( - before 1868) and John Carty, Labourer ( - before 1868).
In the 1891 census for Cambuslang, there is a Patrick Carty, born about 1847 in Co. Leitrim with wife Anne, born about 1851 in Co. Sligo.
Margaret McCaffery was born about 1849 in Cambusnethan Parish, Lanarkshire to Catherine Gunn ( - ) and Bernard McCaffrey, Furnace Filler ( - ). [See Section MC2-5-1 for family background.]
1868 On Sunday, July 5, Francis Carty and Margaret McCaffery were married at Shotts Iron Works, Shotts after Banns according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.12 at Shotts Iron Works on the following day.

St. Patrick's church in Stane was opened on September 20, 1868 so this marriage probably took place wherever was previously used for Sunday Mass. I don't know if Francis and Margaret attended the opening; Margaret gave birth to John on the 25th.
