1862 On Tuesday, June 17, Richard Scanlan and Honora Barry were married in Inniscarra, Co. Cork with witnesses Ri...d Barry and John Murphy.

The Parish of Inniscarra, Diocese of Cloyne, is in the Lee Valley, approximately 10 miles west of Cork City.

Richard and Norah had the following children (that I know of), all born in Hutchesontown, Glasgow (unless otherwise stated) —

Honoraborn about 1864 in Ireland, last sighting 1871.
Thomasborn in 1866 at 87 Wellington Street, married Catherine, in 188x, last sighting 1891.
Margaretborn in 1867 at 87 Wellington Street, last sighting 1891.
Richardborn about 1869 in Ireland and died in 1871 in Hutchesontown.
Catherineborn in 1872 at 4 Rutherglen Road, married (1) Patrick McGee in 1894,
(2) Patrick Carroll in 1904, last sighting 1911.
Mary Annborn in 1880 at 4 Silverfir Street, last sighting 1881.


c1864 Honora was born in Ireland.


1866 Thomas Scanlan was born at 9h0m a.m. on Tuesday, June 19 at 87 Wellington Street, Glasgow to Honora Scanlan m.s. Barry and Richard Scanlan, Paper Maker (Journeyman) who married on June 17, 1862 in Cloyne, Ireland. His birth was registered No.1234 at Glasgow [Hutchesontown District] on July 9 by Richard Scanlan, Father.


1867 Margaret Scanlan was born at 6h0m p.m. on Sunday, November 10 at 87 Wellington Street, Glasgow to Honoria [sic] Scanlan m.s. Barry and Richard Scanlan, Paper Maker who married on June 17, 1862 in Co. Cork, Ireland. Her birth was registered No.2017 at Glasgow [Hutchesontown District] on November 26 by Richard Scanlan, Father, Present.


c1869 Richard was born in Ireland and died in 1871.


1871 April 2 The family were living at 47 McNeil Street, Hutchesontown, in a house with two windowed rooms. (18 families share this address.)

1871 Richard Scanlan (Single) died at 9h0m p.m. on Friday, July 14 at 4 Rutherglen Road, Glasgow, age 19 months, of Measles after 16 days, Not Certified. His parents are recorded as Richard Scanlan, Paper Maker (Journeyman) and Honora Scanlan m.s. Barry. His death was registered No.990 at Glasgow [Hutchesontown District] on July 17 by Richard Scanlan, Father, Present.


1872 Catherine Scanlan was born at 11h a.m. on Friday, April 5 at 4 Rutherglen Road, Glasgow to Noura [sic] Scanlan m.s. Barry and Richard Scanlan, Paper Maker (Journeyman) who married on June 17, 1862 in Inniscarra, Cork, Ireland. Her birth was registered No.841 at Glasgow [Hutchesontown District] on April 23 by Richard Scanlan, Father, Present.


1880 Mary Ann Scanlan was born at 7h a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at 4 Silverfir Street, Glasgow to Honora Scanlan m.s. Barry and Richard Scanlan, Paper Maker (Journeyman) who married on July 16 [sic], 1862 in Inniscarra, Co. Cork, Ireland. Her birth was registered No.1447 at Glasgow [Hutchesontown District] on August 7 by Richard Scanlan, Father.


Richard must have died about now but I can find no record of his death in Scotland.


1881 April 3 Despite the transcription of Norah's christian name, the family were living at 4 Silverfir Street, Hutchesontown in a house with 2 windowed rooms. 6 families share this address.

1883 On Friday, June 8, Michael Mulrane and Nora Barry or Scanlan were married at St. Francis Chapel, Cumberland Street, Glasgow after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.132 at Glasgow [Hutchesontown District] on June 11.

Michael was a Widower, gave his age as 42, occupation Furnaceman and usual residence 4 Sandyfaulds Street, [Hutchesontown,] Glasgow. His parents are recorded as Thomas Mulrane, Blacksmith (Master) and Ann Mulrane m.s. Dolan.

Nora was a Widow, gave her age as 42, no occupation recorded and usual residence also 4 Sandyfaulds Street, Glasgow. Her parents are recorded as Richard Barry, Tailor (Master) (deceased) and Margaret Barry m.s. Murphy.

The celebrant was Bertrand Schulte, St. Francis, Glasgow and the witnesses were Thomas Creamer and Christina O'Connell.

Michael and Norah had the following children (that I know of) —

Jamesborn in 1883 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, last sighting 1891.


1883 James Mulrane was born at 6h a.m. on Monday, July 16 at 4 Silverfir Street, Glasgow to Nora Mulrane, previously Scanlan m.s. Barry and Michael Mulrane, Furnaceman, who married on June 8, 1883 in Glasgow. His birth was registered No.1477 at Glasgow [Hutchesontown District] on July 23 by Michael Mulrane, Father.


1889 On Tuesday, January 1, Thomas married Catherine McGhee at St. Francis Chapel, Cumberland Street, Glasgow. [See Section SC-7-1 for further information.]


1891 April 5 The new family were living at 33 English Square, Govanhill in a house with 2 windowed rooms.

Thomas and Catherine (McGee) were still in Hutchesontown, less than a mile to the east, at 9 Fauldhouse Street

while Margaret and Catherine were also in Hutchesontown at 335 Mathieson Street (the address Catherine gave when she married in 1894) in a house with one windowed room.

Following the death of her first husband Patrick McGee in 1901, Catherine married again.

1904 On Friday, December 30, Catherine Scanlan or McGhee married Patrick Carroll at the Sacred Heart Chapel [Bridgeton], Glasgow. [See Section CA2-7-3 for further information.]
