1856 Betsy Moffat was born at 8h0m p.m. on Wednesday, November 5 at Square, Omoa Iron Works to Mary Moffat m.s. Adams and Robert Moffat, Labourer at Iron Works. Her birth was registered No.241 at Shotts on November 14 by Robert Moffat, Father, Not Present.
1861 April 7 The family were living at 55 Omoa Square, Village of Omoa, in a house with one windowed room.

His birth was registered No.99 at Shotts on April 23 by Robert Moffat, Father, Present.
1871 April 2 The family were living at Muiredge No.1 in a house with one windowed room. (Probably at the junction of minor roads between Muiredge and Penty Woods, east of Bellside, north of the railway.)

1875 Mary Adams Moffat (Illegitimate) was born at 7h0m a.m. on Tuesday, March 23 at Muiredge to Betsy Moffat, lately Farm Servant. Her birth was registered No.121 at Cleland on April 12 by Mary Moffat, Grandmother, Occupier, Present.

“Decree by Court relative to the paternity of an Illegitimate Child
In the Fourth Column of Entry No.121 in the Register Book of Births for the year 1875, before the name of the Child’s Mother, insert John McMillan, Miner, on the authority of a Certificate in the Form of Schedule (F) to the following effect.
In an action relating to the paternity of a female child born 21st [sic] March 1875, at the instance of Betsy Moffat residing at Muiredge in the Parish of Shotts against John McMillan, Miner, Sheepy Knowe, Shotts, the Sheriff Substitute at Airdrie, on the 16th of July 1875 found that the said child was the Illegtimate Child of the said John McMillan. August 10 1875.
27 June 1876 at Shotts, Alex. Paterson, Assistant Registrar.”
1877 Robert Moffat (Illegitimate) was born at 6h30m p.m. on Sunday, June 17 at Omoa, Parish of Shotts to Christina Moffat, Farm Servant. His birth was registered No.64 at Cleland on July 6 by Mary Moffat, Grandmother, Present.

1879 Christina Moffat (Illegitimate) was born at 10h0m p.m. on Friday, March 19 at Omoa, Shotts Parish to [John Allan, Farm Servant - written in a different hand and scored out and] Elizabeth Moffat, Farm Servant. Her birth was registered No.28 at Cleland on April 5 by Elizabeth Moffat, "her X mark", Mother.
There is further information in the Register of Corrected Entries for the West District of Shotts Parish in the County of Lanark, Volume 1, Page 11.

In an action relating to the paternity of a Child Named Christina Moffat, born 19 March 1879, at the instance of Elizabeth Moffat, Farm Servant, Cleland in the Parish of Shotts and County of Lanark, against John Allan, Farm Servant, Belstane in the Parish of Carluke and County aforesaid, the Sheriff Court at Lanark, on the 18th day of November 1879 found that the said child was the Illegtimate Child of the Parties aforesaid.
November 26th 1879 at Cleland, William Spence, Registrar”
As I understand it, John Allan’s name should not have been entered in the original registration, which is why it has been scored out with “Clerical error - Col.4” written in the margin.

His parents are recorded as William Moffat, Ploughman and Christina Moffat m.s. Reid, both deceased. His death was registered No.42 at Cleland on the following day by Elizabeth Moffat, Daughter, Present.

1898 Mary Moffat, Widow of Robert Moffat, Pit Labourer, died at 6h0m a.m. on Monday, June 6 at 86 Omoa Square, West Dist. of Shotts, age 72 years, of Diarrhoea + Debility after 10 days, as certified by John Lithgow, MBCM. Her parents are recorded as John Adams, Journeyman Joiner and Marion Adams m.s. Smellie, both deceased. Her death was registered No.43 at Cleland on the same day by Betsy Moffat, Daughter, Present.

1911 April 2 Elizabeth and Kate were living at 81 Omoa Square, Cleland, in a house with one windowed room.
