1871 There is a marriage registered in Londonderry (Quarter 1, Volume 7, Page 191) between Edward Mullin and Rosy Doherty. Unfortunately, there is no image available so I am unable to confirm further details.


1878 Mary was born on Tuesday, April 2 at Bolie, Faughanvale to Rose Mullan, m.s. Doherty and Edward Mullan, Labourer. Her birth was registered No.286 at Ballykelly in the Union of Limavady in the County of Londonderry on April 27 by Edward Mullan, "his X mark", Father.

She was baptised in St Mary's, Faughanvale on Sunday, April 7 with sponsors William Feeny and Biddy Feeny. Her parents are recorded as Edward Mullin and Rose Doherty, Bolie.

Bolie is a townland of 855 acres in the Parish of Faughanvale in the Barony of Tirkeeran in the Union of Newton Limavady, County Derry.


1879 Mary's brother James was baptised in Faughanvale on Thursday, June 19 with sponsors John and Mary Doherty. His parents are recorded as Edward Mullin and Rose Doherty, Bolie.

Patrick Kelly was born on July 18, 1873, at Cleland, Lanarkshire to Jane Reynolds (c1852 - 1924) and Robert Kelly (c1851 - 1920). [See Section KY-6-1 for family background].

Mary Mullan was born on April 2, 1878, in Bolie, Faughanvale, Co. Londonderry to Rose Doherty ( - ) and Edward Mullan ( - ). She died in 1940. [See above for family background].


1901 March 31 Patrick and Mary were living at 9 Thomson's Square, Low Main St., Wishaw, 6 doors from Ellen (Kelly) and Thomas McInally, in a house with one windowed room.

1901 On Monday, June 3 Patrick Kelly and Mary Mullan were married at St Mary's, Faughanvale according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.75 in the Registrar's District of Eglinton in the Union of Derry in the County of Derry on July 2.

Patrick was a Bachelor, of full age, occupation Labourer and residence Glasgow. His father is recorded as Robert Kelly, Labourer.

Mary was a Spinster, of full age, occupation Seamstress and residence Faughanvale. Her father is recorded as Edward Mullan, Labourer.

The celebrant was John McNamee, P.P. and the witnesses were George Doherty and Catherine Mullan.

Mary and Catherine made their marks, Patrick and George signed.

Although the marriage registration is incontrovertably dated 1901, Patrick consistently gave it as 1900 when registering the births of his children. Mary's surname is more often given as Mullen rather than Mullan.

1901 Rose Ann Kelly was born at 3h20m p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at 9 Thomson's Square, Low Main Street, Wishaw to Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen [sic] and Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner who married on May 20, 1900 [sic] at Greysteel, Co. Derry, Ireland. Her birth was registered No.497 at Wishaw on June 11 by Patrick Kelly, Father.



1903 Jane Kelly was born at 11h45m a.m. on Friday, April 3 at 145 Omoa Square, West Dist. of Shotts to Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen [sic] and Patrick Kelly, Coalminer who married on May 20, 1900 [sic] at Creggin [Creggan, aka Faughanvale], Ireland. Her birth was registered No.59 at Cleland on April 25 by Patrick Kelly, Father.

Jane married Daniel Mullen in Cleland in 1922 and died in Carfin in 1923.


1922 On Friday, April 21, Daniel Mullen and Jane Kelly were married at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Chapel, Cleland after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.20 at Cleland on April 24.

Daniel was a Bachelor, gave his age as 21, occupation Coal Miner and usual residence 64 Main Street, Holytown. His parents are recorded as Robert Mullen, Coal Miner (deceased) and Elizabeth Mullen m.s. Kerr.

Jane was a Spinster, age 19, occupation Pithead Worker and usual residence Omoa Road, Cleland. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen.

The celebrant was Thomas Doyle, R.C. Clergyman, Cleland and the witnesses were Willie O'Hara, Seaford Place, Mossend and Bridget McGlinchey, 143 Omoa Road, Cleland.


1923 Jane Mullen, married to Daniel Mullen, died at 7h55m a.m. on Sunday, May 27 at 5 Bellerophon Row, Carfin, age 20 years, of Acute Pulmonary Phthisis as certified by J. Irving, M.B.Ch.B. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen. Her death was registered No.63 at Holytown on the following day by D. Mullen, Widower, Present.



1906 Mary Kelly was born at 9h45m a.m. on Sunday, October 7 at Spindleside, West Dist. of Shotts to Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen [sic] and Patrick Kelly, Coalminer who married on May 20, 1900 [sic] at Craigen [Creggan, aka Faughanvale], Ireland. Her birth was registered No.132 at Cleland on October 16 by Patrick Kelly, Father, Present.


1908 Mary Kelly (Single) died at 4h55m a.m. on Monday, February 17 at 16 Silverburn, Newarthill, age 1 year, of Nephritis, 1 month, Pulmonary Congestion, 14 days, Heart Failure as certified by A.A. Carruthers, M.B.Ch.B. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen. Her death was registered No.46 at Holytown on the same day by Patrick Kelly, Father, Present.



1908 Edward Mullen Kelly was born at 8h p.m. on Sunday, December 13 at 17 Silverburn, Newarthill to Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen [sic] and Patrick Kelly, Coalminer who married on May 20, 1900 [sic] at Faughanvale, Londonderry, Ireland. His birth was registered No.728 at Holytown on December 21 by Patrick Kelly, Father, Present.

Edward married Margaret O'Hare in Shettleston in 1940.


1899 On Friday, September 22, John O'Hare and Margaret Connelly were married at Mossend [Holy Family?], District of Bellshill after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.82 at Bellshill on September 28.

John was a Bachelor, gave his age as 23, occupation Iron Shearsman and usual residence Carfin Road, New Stevenston. His parents are recorded as Stephen O'Hare, Carter and Mary O'Hare m.s. McGrath.

Margaret was a Spinster, gave her age as 18, no occupation recorded and usual residence No.8 Pit, New Stevenston. Her parents are recorded as Henry Connelly, Coal Miner (deceased) and Catherine Connelly m.s. McCann.

The celebrant was Michael Hughes and the witnesses were Laurence Connolly [sic] and Maggie McCann.


1940 On Thursday, August 15, Edward Mullen Kelly and Margaret O'Hare were married at St. Mark's Church, Glasgow after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.565 at Glasgow [District of Shettleston] on the same day.

Edward was a Bachelor, age 31, occupation Aircraft Factory Worker and usual residence 81 Bolingbroke Road, Stoke, Coventry, England. His parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen [sic], both deceased.

Margaret was a Spinster, age 32, occupation General Warehouse Receiving Clerkess and usual residence 460 Westmuir Street, Glasgow. Her parents are recorded as John O'Hare, Ironworker (deceased) and Margaret O'Hare m.s. Connolly.

The celebrant was James Kearney, Catholic Clergyman, St. Mark's, Carntyne and the witnesses were James McGinn, 62 Newarthill Road, Carfin and Annie O'Hare, 460 Westmuir Street, Glasgow.


1975 Edward Mullen Kelly (date of birth December 13, 1908), Club Caretaker (retired), married to Margaret O'Hare, found dead at 1630 hours on Saturday, March 1 at 23 Brannock Avenue, Newarthill, age 66 years, cause of death I(a) Cerebral Haemorhage, (b) Hypertension, as certified by E.M. Woolight. His parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coalminer and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen, both deceased. His death was registered No.134 at Bellshill on March 4 by Edward Kelly, Son, 31 Tyndrum Place, Templehall, Kirkcaldy.


[Janice] Margaret was born March 21, 1908 in Mossend, and died November 17, 1993 in Kirkcaldy.



1911 April 2 The family were living in Viaduct Place near Omoa Station [nowadays Cleland Station] in a house with one windowed room.

Her birth was registered No.663 at Holytown on December 29 by Patrick Kelly, Father, Present.

Elizabeth married Peter McDevitt in Carfin in 1941.


1941 On Saturday, June 28, Peter McDavatt [sic] and Elizabeth Kelly were married at St. Francis Xavier's, Carfin after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.97 at Holytown on July 2.

Peter was a Bachelor, gave his age as 35, occupation Bricklayer (Jouneyman) and usual residence 29 Glenburn Terrace, Carfin. His parents are recorded as Hugh McDavatt, Road Surfaceman and Bridget McDavatt m.s. McByrne.

Elizabeth was a Spinster, age 29, no occupation recorded and usual residence 7 Thorndene Avenue, Carfin. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullan, both deceased.

1915 Sarah Jane Mullen Kelly was born at 0h30m p.m. on Saturday, January 23 at 69 Omoa Road, Cleland to Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen [sic] and Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner who married on May 20, 1900 [sic] in Londonderry. Her birth was registered No.13 at Cleland on the following day by Patrick Kelly, Father.

Sarah Jane married William Feeney in Ireland.


1985 Sarah Jane Mullen Feeney (date of birth January 23, 1915), widow of William Feeney, General Labourer, died at 2140 hours on Tuesday, February 19 at Law Hospital, Carluke (usual residence 18 Brodick Avenue, Motherwell), age 70 years, of I(a) Broncho Pneumonia, II Diabetes, as certified by Patricia Muirhead. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coalminer and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen, both deceased. Her death was registered No.173 in Motherwell and Wishaw District on the following day by Rosemary Aitkenhead, Daughter, Birkenhead Farm, Carluke.



1917 Catherine Kelly was born at 4h40m a.m. on Monday, June 4 at 69 Omoa Road, Cleland to Mary Kelly m.s. Mullen [sic] and Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner who married on May 20, 1900 [sic] in Londonderry. Her birth was registered No.59 at Cleland on the following day by Patrick Kelly, Father, Present.

Sadly, Catherine died the following year.

1918 Catherine Kelly (Single) died at 3h45m p.m. on Sunday, February 17 at Omoa Road Cleland, age 8 months, of Bronchial Catarrh, 1 month, Acute Gastritis, 14 days as certified by Geo. Hugh Logan, M.B.Ch.B. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullan. Her death was registered No.14 at Cleland on the following day by Patrick Kelly, Father, Present.



1920 Twins Patrick and James Kelly were born at 5h45m and 6h0m p.m. respectively on Saturday, January 3 at Omoa Road, Cleland to Mary Kelly m.s. Mullan and Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner who married on May 20, 1900 [sic] at Creggan, Londonderry. Their births were registered Nos.1 and 2 respectively at Cleland on January 5 by Patrick Kelly, Father, Present.

1939 James Kelly, Steel Worker, (Single), died at 8h30m a.m. on Thursday, April 27 at 7 Thorndene Avenue, Carfin, age 19 years, of Phthysis Pulmonalis as certified by Wm.C. Sharp, M.B.Ch.B., D.P.H. His parents are recorded as Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner (deceased) and Mary Kelly m.s. Mullan. His death was registered No.75 at Holytown on the same day by Edward Kelly, Brother, Present.

His parents are recorded as Robert Kelly, Coal Miner and Jane Kelly m.s. Reynolds, both deceased. His death was registered No.57 at Holytown on the following day by Edward Kelly, Son, Present.



1940 Mary Kelly, Widow of Patrick Kelly, Coal Miner, died at 7h0m a.m. on Tuesday, February 6 at 7 Thorndene Avenue, Carfin, age 61 years, of Chronic Bronchitis, Myocardial Degeneration as certified by Wm. G. Sharp, M.B.Ch.B., D.P.H. Her parents are recorded as Edward Mullen, Farmer and Rose Mullen m.s. Doherty, both deceased.
