Michael Mullen was born on November 19, 1870, in Tollcross, Shettleston Parish to Mary McIntee [c1840 - ] and Michael Mullen [c1840 - 1912]. [See Section MN-6-1 for family background.]

Annie Colvin was born on September 15, 1868 in Lightburn, Shettleston Parish to Margaret McGee [1840 - 1905] and Daniel Colvin [1837 - 1917]. [See Section CL-6-1 for family background.]


1895 On Tuesday, January 1, Michael Mullen and Annie Colvin were married at St. Paul's R.C. Church, Shettleston after Publication according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.8 at Shettleston on January 3.

Annie was a Spinster, age 26 [unusually honest about her age for a Colvin woman], no occupation recorded and usual residence as Lightburn, Shettleston. Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGee.

Michael was a Bachelor, gave his age as 23 [he was 24], occupation Coalminer and usual residence 47 Easterhill Street, Tollcross. His parents are recorded as Michael Mullen, Coalminer, and Mary Mullen, m.s. McIntee.

The celebrant was Patrick Gaule, RCC and the witnesses were Jas. M Taylor and Mary Colvin.

Michael and Annie had the following children (that I know of), all born in Tollcross —

Michaelborn in 1904 at 52 Easterhill Street, married Dorothy in the United States, last sighting 1972.
Sarah Josephborn in 1907 at 100 Easterhill Street, married John McAloon in 1942 and died in 1945.


1895 Maggie McGee Mullen was born at 1h45m p.m. on Friday, October 11 at French's Land, Dunlop Street, Tollcross to Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin and Michael Mullen, Coal miner who married on January 1, 1895 in Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.435 at Shettleston on October 16 by Michael Mullen, Father.


1898 Mary McIntee Mullen was born at 5h15m a.m. on Friday, October 7 at French's Land, Dunlop Street, Tollcross to Michael Mullen, Coal Miner and Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin who married on January 1, 1895 in Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.504 at Shettleston on October 11 by Michael Mullen, Father.

She married Henry Evitt in 1937 in St. Joseph's, Tollcross.


1901 March 31 Michael and Annie were living at Catherine Place, [on the east side of] Dunlop [now Corbett] Street, Tollcross. There were 20 houses sharing this address.

1902 Daniel Colvin Mullen was born at 4h15m a.m. on Monday, February 3 at 52 Easterhill Street, Tollcross to Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin and Michael Mullen, Coal Miner who married on January 1, 1895 at Shettleston. His birth was registered No.86 at Shettleston on February 9 by Michael Mullen, Father.

He married Elizabeth Carroll in 1936 in St. Joseph's, Tollcross and died in 1972.


1904 Michael Mullen was born at 4h50m p.m. on Saturday, January 30 at 52 Easterhill Street, Tollcross to Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin and Michael Mullen, Coal Miner who married on January 1, 1895 at Shettleston. His birth was registered No.79 at Shettleston on February 3 by Michael Mullen, Father.

He married Dorothy in the United States. They appear in photographs taken at Amulree Street at a party marking a visit back home.


1907 Michael Mullen, Coal Miner, married to Annie Colvin, died at 1h45m a.m. on Monday, July 29 at the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow (usual residence 100 Easterhill Street, Tollcross), age 37 years, of Burns of face, chest & arms after 6 days, as certified by Wm R. Cammock. His parents are recorded as Michael Mullen, Coalminer and Mary Mullen m.s. McAtee. His death was registered No.957 at Glasgow [District of Dennistoun] on the same day by Thomas Mullen, Brother, 116 Easterhill Street, Tollcross.

There is further information in the Register of Corrected Entries for the District of Denistoun in the Burgh of Glasgow, Volume 2 Page 23, September 25, 1907.

Cause of Death — From injuries sustained by deceased on 23 July 1907 - that he was severely burned while alone in the pit and according to his own statement his injuries were due to an explosion of his safety lamp, but that the jury were unable to say whether this was the case or whether an explosion was due to the use of a naked light in the presence of gas, per verdict of jury.

1907 Sarah Joseph Mullen was born at 5h15m a.m. on Sunday, September 15 at 100 Easterhill Street, Tollcross to Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin and Michael Mullen, Coal Miner (deceased 29 July 1907) who married on January 1, 1895 at Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.753 at Shettleston on October 4 by Annie Mullen, Mother.

She married John McAloon in 1942 in St. Joseph's, Tollcross and died in 1945.


1911 April 2 The family were living at 105 Causewayside St., Tollcross in a house with one windowed rooom.

1933 Ann Mullen, Widow of Michael Mullen, Colliery Underground Fireman, died at 5h0m a.m. on Saturday, September 9 at 107 Causewayside Street, Tollcross, aged 64 years, of Carcinoma of Colon, 6 months, as certified by Joseph Dunn, MBChB. Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGhee, both deceased. Her death was registered No.181 at Baillieston (District of Old Monkland West) on September 11 by Daniel Mullen, Son, Present.


1936 On Friday, August 14, Daniel Colvin Mullen and Elizabeth Carroll were married at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Tollcross After Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.113 at Baillieston (District of Old Monkland West) on August 17.

Daniel was a Bachelor, age 34, occupation Contractor's Labourer and usual residence 958 Tollcross Road, Glasgow. His parents are recorded as Michael Mullen, Coal Miner and Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin, both deceased.

Elizabeth was a Spinster, age 28, occupation Confectionery Worker and usual residence 958 Tollcross Road, Glasgow. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Carroll, Coal Miner (deceased) and Catherine Carroll, previously McGhee, m.s. Scanlan.

The celebrant was John Rogan [probably Dan's cousin], Clergyman, St. Mary's R.C. Church, Hamilton and the witnesses were Henry Evitt, 5 Nuneaton Street, Bridgeton and Catherine Carroll, 958 Tollcross Road, Glasgow.


1972 There is the death of Daniel Colvin Mullen registered in Glasgow Martha Street. (try 617-987)


1995 Elizabeth Mullen (Date of Birth July 14, 1908), Widow of Daniel Mullen, Contractors Labourer died at 1700 hours on Thursday, November 2 at the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow G4 0SF (usual address 36 Inzievar Terrace, Carmyle G32 8JR), age 87 years, of Metastatic Breast Carcinoma as certified by John J. Graham. Her parents are recorded as Patrick Carroll, Coal Miner and Catherine Carroll, formerly McGhee m.s. Scanlan, both deceased. Her death was registered No.171 at Baillieston on the following day by J.A. Mulligan, Son-in-law, 19 Montrose Avenue, Carmyle G32 8JP.

She was buried on November 7 in St. Peter's Cemetery (Good Shepherd Extension), Dalbeth after Requiem Mass in St. Joachim's, Carmyle.


1937 On Saturday, August 21, Henry Evitt and Mary McIntee Mullen were married at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Tollcross After Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.118 at Baillieston on August 24.

Henry was a Bachelor, gave his age as 34, occupation Engineer's Hole Borer and usual residence 5 Nuneaton Street, [Bridgeton,] Glasgow. His parents are recorded as John Evitt, Iron Turner (Journeyman) and Elizabeth Evitt m.s. Campbell (deceased).

Mary was a Spinster, age 38, occupation Housemaid and usual residence 958 Tollcross Road, Glasgow. Her parents are recorded as Michael Mullen, Coal Miner and Annie Mullen m.s. Colvin, both deceased.

The celebrant was William Lowery, St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Tollcross, R.C. Clergyman, and the witnesses were Charles Evitt, 5 Nuneaton St., Bridgeton and Sarah Mullen, 958 Tollcross Rd., Tollcross.


1938 Anne Josephine Evitt was born at 10h55m p.m. on Saturday, August 27 at the Maternity Hospital, Glasgow to Mary McIntee Evitt m.s. Mullen and Henry Evitt, Iron Driller (Usual residence 156 Millburn Street, Glasgow), who married on August 21, 1937 at Tollcross. Her birth was registered No.2244 at Glasgow [College District] on September 5 by Henry Evitt, Father.


1942 On Friday, October 2, Sarah married John McAloon at St. Joseph's, Tollcross. [See Section MAL-7-1 for further information.]


1945 Sarah died on April 3.
