Thomas (or Cairns) McComb was born about 1818 in Dumfries, according to the 1851 Census, and married Agnes McKim on January 1, 1839 in Edinburgh. She was the daughter of William McKim and was born about 1816 in Ireland. She died in 1872 in St Georges Parish, Edinburgh.
In the census of 1841 he is recorded as a Labourer, residing at 101 Portsburgh, Edinburgh, and in 1851, a Rail Worker residing at 149 Wester Portsburgh [West Port?], Edinburgh.
