Edward Greer was born on January 24, 1876 at Main Street, Tollcross, Lanarkshire to Jane McMillan (c1841 - before 1901) and Thomas Greer, Coal Miner (c1838 - after 1901). [See Section GR-5-1 for family background.]

Catherine Boyle was born on April 25, 1883 at 13 St. Joseph's Place, Calton, Glasgow to Ellen McKenna ( - ) and James Boyle, Ironwork Labourer ( - ).

1883 Catherine Boyle was born at 0h15m a.m. on Wednesday, April 25 at 13 St. Joseph's Place [part of Abercromby Street], Glasgow to Ellen Boyle m.s. McKenna and James Boyle, Ironwork Labourer who married on December 19, 1880 in Glasgow. Her birth was registered No.518 at Glasgow [Calton District] on May 15 by Ellen Boyle, Mother.


1903 On Thursday, December 31, Edward Greer and Catherine Boyle were married at St. Anne's Church, Glasgow after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.359 at Glasgow [Camlachie District] on the same day.

Edward was a Bachelor, gave his age as 25 [he was 27], occupation Coal Miner and usual residence 69 Eastmuir Street, Shettleston. His parents are recorded as Thomas Greer, Coal Miner and Jane Greer m.s. McMillan (deceased).

Catherine was a Spinster, gave her age as 21 [she was 20], occupation Power Loom Weaver and usual residence 4 Crownpoint Street, Glasgow. Her parents are recorded as James Boyle, Labourer and Ellen Boyle m.s. McKenna.

The celebrant was Thomas Currie and the witnesses were James McMahon and Mary Jane Boyle.

[Note :– The present St. Anne's (1933) is in Whitevale Street, just south of Duke Street which I would expect to be in Dennistoun District. I don't know where the previous church (1898) was but there are other marriages there registered in Camlachie.]

Edward and Catherine had the following children (that I know of) —

Ellenborn in 1908 at 824 Great Eastern Road, Parkhead, last sighting 1911.
Jeanieborn in 1910 at 65 McNair Street, Shettleston, last sighting 1911.

which tallies with the 1911 census count.


1906 Thomas Greer was born at 12h Noon on Sunday, December 16 at 22 Francis [now Vesalius] Street, Shettleston to Catherine Greer m.s. Boyle and Edward Greer, Coal Miner who married on December 31, 1903 in Camlachie, Glasgow. His birth was registered No.1005 at Shettleston on the following day by Edward Greer, Father.


1908 Ellen Greer was born at 2h30m a.m. on Sunday, November 22 at 824 Great Eastern Road [now part of the Gallowgate], Glasgow to Catherine Greer m.s. Boyle and Edward Greer, Coal Miner who married on December 31, 1903 in Glasgow. Her birth was registered No.2046 at Glasgow [Camlachie District] on December 7 by Edward Greer, Father.


1910 Jeanie Greer was born at 11h0m a.m. on Wednesday, November 16 at 65 McNair Street, Shettleston to Catherine Greer m.s. Boyle and Edward Greer, Coal Miner who married on December 31, 1903 in Camlachie, Glasgow. Her birth was registered No.878 at Shettleston on November 30 by Catherine Greer, Mother.


1911 April 2 Edward and Kate were living at 65 McNair Street, Shettleston in a house with one windowed room.
