John Gillan was born about 1834
Ann McFadyn was born about 1842
1867 On Saturday, June 15, John Gillon and Ann McFadyn were married at Eastmuir, Shettleston after Banns according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.17 at Shettleston on June 18.
John was a Bachelor, gave his age as 37, occupation Pit Shanker and usual residence Baillieston, Old Monkland Parish. His parents are recorded as John Gillon, Farm Labourer and Betsy Gillon m.s. Cairns, both deceased. [Which is a bit odd as he has mother Margaret living with him in 1881 and she seems to be still alive in 1891!]
Ann was a Widow, gave her age as 32, no occupation recorded and usual residence also Baillieston, Old Monkland Parish. Her parents are recorded as Denis McFadyn, Bottomer in Pit and Margaret McFadyn m.s. Boyle (deceased).
The celebrant was P. McLaughlin, Pastor of St. Paul's Rom. Cath. Church, Eastmuir and the witnesses were Patrick Reynolds and Jane Reynolds.
The bride, groom and both witnesses all made their marks.
From the Register of Marriages in St. Paul's, Eastmuir —
“June 15 – John Gillon + Ann McFadyn, after due proclamation of Banns, were married by me in presence of Patrick Reynolds + Jane Reynolds. Patrick McLaughlin”
[Note :– If these are our Patrick and Jane, then Jane was 15 years old and Patrick would (probably) be her father as her brother Patrick was only 11.]
