Henry Dunigan was born on Wednesday, January 22, 1851 in Shettleston to Mary Smith (c1807 - 1897) and Henry Dunigan, Cotton Hand Loom Weaver, (c1801 - 1870). [See Section DG-5-2 for family background.]

Elizabeth Houston was born in 1854 in Glasgow to Mary Hanny (c1820 - 1881) and Cornelius Houston, Coal Miner (c1813 - 1870). [See Section HN-5-1 for family background.]

1881 On Thursday, February 10, Henry Dunigan and Elizabeth Houston were married at the RC Chapel, Eastmuir [St. Paul's] after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.11 at Shettleston on February 12.

Henry was a Bachelor, gave his age as 28 [he was a month short of his 30th birthday], occupation Coal Miner and usual residence Green [now Ducraig] Street, Shettleston. His parents are recorded as Henry Dunigan, Cotton Weaver, deceased and Mary Dunigan m.s. Smith.

Elizabeth was a Spinster, gave her age as 25 [she was nearer 27], occupation Winder in Mill and usual residence as Firpark [now Darleith] Street, Shettleston, Lanarkshire. Her parents are recorded as Cornelius Houston, Iron Stone Miner, deceased and Mary Houston m.s. Hanny.

The celebrant was G. McBrearty and the witnesses were John Keenan and Susan O'Hara.

The marriage is recorded in the Register of Marriages in St Paul's.

Henry and Elizabeth had the following children (that I know of) —

Houston and Henry Dunigan, Coal Miner who married on February 10, 1881 at Shettleston. Her birth was registered No.317 at Shettleston on December 5 by Henry Dunigan, Father.

She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St Paul's, Shettleston on December 6 with sponsor Mrs Patrick Cunningham (Henry's sister Catherine).

Sarah (Reid) is the widow of Henry Cunningham, son of Henry's sister Margaret and Joseph Cunningham.

1897 Michael Rodgers, Illegitimate, was born at 10h0m a.m. on Wednesday, September 15 at 297 Main Street, Shettleston to Jane Rodgers, Farm Servant [no father recorded]. His birth was registered No.441 at Shettleston on September 24 by Jane Rodgers, Mother.

I wonder who Jane Rodgers was. If I ignore several born not too far from Shettleston, the most likely candidate is —

1875 Jane Rodgers was born at 8h0m a.m. on Tuesday, November 2 at Provanhall, Shettleston, Lanark to Agnes Rodgers m.s. McNamara and Samuel Rodgers, Coal Miner who married on July 17 in Shettleston Parish. Her birth was registered No.329 at Shettleston on November 8 by Samuel Rodgers, "his X mark", Father.

A quick look at the marriage, which took place in St. Paul's, shows Samuel was 28, his parents are recorded as James Rodgers, Coal Miner, deceased and Jane Rodgers m.s. Tottan while Agnes was 18 and her parents were John McNamara, Coal Miner, deceased and Elizabeth McNamara m.s. Hoare. Both Samuel and Agnes made their marks.

Nothing to show a family connection with the Dunnigans.

1911 April 2 The family were living at 303 Old Shettleston Road (the only family with this address), in a house with one windowed room.
