The Family of Patrick Callivan & Margaret Leslie, 1857

I have documented this family because I kept tripping over them while researching our own Colvin connections in Shettleston.

Patrick Callivan was born about 1831 in Ireland to Susan Leckie ( - ) and Philip Callivan, Dyer ( - ).

Margaret Leslie was born about 1833 in Ireland to Catherine Braidy ( - before 1857) and Edward Leslie ( - before 1857).

1857 On Wednesday, November 4, Patrick Callivan and Margaret Leslie were married at Dalbeth Cottage after Banns according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.26 at Shettleston on ?.

Patrick was a Bachelor, gave his age as 26, occupation Collier and usual residence Tollcross. His parents are recorded as Philip Callivan, Dyer and Susan Callivan m.s. Leckie.

Margaret was a Spinster, gave her age as 25, occupation Servant and usual residence Tollcross. Her parents are recorded as Edward Leslie and Catherine Leslie m.s. Braidy, both deceased.

The celebrant was Patk. McLachlan [Laughlin], R.C.C., Dalbeth Cottage, Dalbeth by Glasgow and the witnesses were James Leslie and Biddy Leckie.

The marriage is also recorded in the register of St. Paul's, Eastmuir —

"Patrick Cullivan & Margaret Leslie, after due proclamation of Banns, were married by me in the presence of James Leslie and Biddy Leckie. Patrick McLaughlin."

Unfortunately, it offers no reason as to why the mariage was conducted at Dalbeth rather than in St. Paul's.
