William Tollan was born about 1872 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire to Elizabeth Ferguson ( - ) and John Tollan, Miner ( - before 1899).

Mary Ann Havlin was born about 1874 in Glasgow to Cecilia Colvin (c1836 - 1912) and Francis Havlin, Boiler Maker (c1842 - 1906). [See Section HV-6-1 for family background.]


1899 On Tuesday, February 14, William Tollan and Mary Ann Havelin were married at St. Michael's Chapel, Glasgow after Banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.66 at Glasgow [District of Camlachie] on the following day.

William was a Bachelor, gave his age as 27, occupation Coal Miner and usual residence Baillieston. His parents are recorded as John Tollan, Miner (deceased) and Elizabeth Tollan m.s. Ferguson.

Mary Ann was a Spinster, gave her age as 25, occupation Steam Loom Weaver and usual residence 993 Great Eastern Road [now part of the Gallowgate]. Her parents are recorded as Francis Havelin, Labourer and Cecilia Havelin, m.s. Colvin.

The celebrant was Fr. Francis McCann, Clergyman and the witnesses were John O'Donnell and Margaret Hendrie.

William and Mary Ann had the following children (that I know of) —

1908 Hugh Tollan was born at 7h55m p.m. on Friday, May 29 at 4 Crosshill Square, Baillieston to Mary Ann Tollan m.s. Havelin and William Tollan, Checkweighman who married on February 14, 1899 in Camlachie. His birth was registered No.158 at Baillieston on June 1 by William Tollan, Father.

1954 Mary Ann Tollan, Married to William Tollan, Colliery Checkweighman, died at 6h15m p.m. on Wednesday, June 16 at 6 Caledonia Drive, Baillieston (Usual residence 7 Mainhill Place, Baillieston), age 79 years, of Cerebral Thrombosis Arterio Sclerosis, as certified by J.J. Murray, MBChB. Her parents are recorded as Francis Havlin, Boilermaker and Cecilia Havlin m.s. Colvin, both deceased. Her death was registered No.85 at Baillieston on the following day by Frank Tollan, Son, 6 Montrose Crescent, Hamilton, Present.
