Ellen Leonard was born about 1876 in Calderhead District to Mary Morris (c1855 - ) and Philip Lennard, Coal Miner (c1849 - ). [See Section LE-6-3 for family background.]
1896 On Thursday, October 1 Patrick Reynolds and Ellen Leonard were married at the RC Chapel, Stane [St. Patrick's] after Banns according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.21 at Stane (District of Calderhead) on October 3.
Patrick was a Bachelor, age 21, occupation Coal Miner and usual residence Hawkwood Burn, Shotts. [This suggests that he was not living at home as Ellen was married from the Water Wheel the previous year and the family were allegedly living at the Water Wheel when Dick left school about 1898]. His parents are recorded as Richard Reynolds, Coal Miner and Mary Reynolds m.s. Lafferty.
Ellen was a Spinster, age 20, occupation Domestic Servant and usual residence High Street, Shotts Iron Works. Her parents are recorded as Philip Lenard [sic], Coal Miner and Mary Lenard m.s. Morris.
The celebrant was Hugh Kelly and the witnesses were Thomas Conlin [a neighbour of Patrick's parents in 1901] and Ellen Shields.

Bridget born in 1911 at 25 High Street, married Peter McGovern in 1943. Sarah born in 1914 at 25 High Street and died in 1918. Agnes born in 1915 at 25 High Street and died in 1917. Charles born in 1917 at 25 High Street and died in 1918. Letitia born in 1921 at 25 High Street, married John Rodgers in 1945, last sighting 1945.
1897 Mary Reynolds was born at 6h0m a.m. on Friday, June 25 at Flat Rows, Shotts Iron Works to Ellen Reynolds m.s. Bridget married Peter McGovern on March 3, 1943.
1911 April 2 The family were living at 25 High Street, Shotts in a house with two windowed rooms, apparently sharing the house with another family called White who merited their own schedule number despite being included in the number of persons in this house. To complicate my interpretation of the enumerator's record, all the other houses on this page have 1 windowed room and 26 High Street is occupied by another family called White.

I have found only one infant death (Mary) so far. That leaves two short-lived children to find, and not a lot of space to fit them in.
1914 Sarah Reynolds was born at 3h0m p.m. on Monday, September 21 at 25 High Street, Shotts to Ellen Reynolds m.s. Leonard and Patrick Reynolds, Coal Miner who married on October 1, 1896 in Calderhead District. Her birth was registered No.269 at Stane [Calderhead District] on September 24 by Patrick Reynolds, Father (Present).
Sadly, Sarah died in November 1918 aged 4 years.

Busher, MB. His parents are recorded as Patrick Reynolds, Coal Miner and Ellen Reynolds m.s. Leonard. His death was registered No.1318 at Edinburgh [George Square District] on the following day by Patrick Reynolds, Father, 28 Jordan Terrace, Shotts.
Richard was buried on October 9 with his siblings, Sarah and Charles, in Stane Cemetery. He appears in the cemetery records as a miner, address 28a Jordan Terrace, Shotts, aged 34 years, single, son of Patrick Reynolds and Ellen Leonard. The grave was opened to a depth of 5ft 6 for a fee of £1.

Ellen was buried on August 11 in Stane Cemetery, Section C, Lair 327. The cemetery records give her age as 64 years and the grave was opened to a depth of 6ft 6.

1961 Patrick Reynolds, Coal Miner - Retired (Widower of Ellen Leonard), died at 3h10m p.m. on Sunday, December 17 at 12 Benhar Road, Shotts, aged 87 years, of Pneumoconiosis and Senile degeneration of heart as certified by R.H.M. Harvey, MBChB. His parents are recorded as Richard Reynolds, Coal Miner and Mary Reynolds m.s. Lafferty, both deceased. His death was recorded No.188 at Shotts [Calderhead District] on the following day by Michael Reynolds, Son, Present.
