1864 George McKay was born at 5h0m a.m. on Sunday, July 17 at Annans Terrace, Wellington Street, Dundee to Catherine McKay m.s. Mudie and George McKay, Mechanic (fitter) who married on August 23, 1852 at Dundee. His birth was registered No.1200 at Dundee [First District] on August 4 by George McKay, Father, Present.

1881 April 3 This appears to be George with his family at 57 Mains Road, Dundee in a house with 3 windowed rooms.

Catherine Creanor was born on Saturday, January 10, 1863 at Greenburn, Fauldhouse to Margaret Lynch (c1832 - 1911) and Arthur Creanor, Iron Miner (c1824 - 1907). [See Section CR-6-1 for family background.]


1886 On Friday, September 10, George McKay and Catherine Drainer [sic] were married at No.12 Saxecoburg Place, [Stockbridge,] Edinburgh after Banns according to the Forms of the Free Church. The marriage was registered No.351 at Edinburgh [District of St. Andrew] on September 15.

George was a Bachelor, age 22, occupation (something indecipherable) Labourer and usual residence No.4 Clarence Street, [Stockbridge,] Edinburgh. His parents are recorded as George McKay, Mechanical Engineer and Catherine McKay m.s. Mosdie, deceased.

Catherine was a Spinster, gave her age as 20 [she was 23½], occupation Domestic Servant and usual residence Same Place. Her parents are recorded as Arthur Drainer, Coal Miner and Margaret Drainer m.s. Lind [sic].

The officiating minister was Andrew McKeay, Minister of the Free Church of Scotland, and the witnesses were J. Millar and Mary Drainer.

George and Catherine had the following children (that I know of) —

1887 Twins George and Margaret McKay were born at 11h20m and 11h30m a.m. respectively on Saturday, March 26 at Greenburn, District of Fauldhouse to Catherine McKay m.s. Creanor and George McKay, Labourer who married on September 10, 1886 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Their births were registered Nos.46 & 47 at Fauldhouse on April 6 by George McKay, Father, Present.

Sadly, Margaret did not live long.

1887 Margaret McKay (Single) died at 11h20m a.m. on Wednesday, April 6 at Greenburn, District of Fauldhouse, age 11 days, of Premature Birth, Catarrh, as certified by W.G. Pretsell, MBCM. Her parents are recorded as George McKay, Labourer and Catherine McKay m.s. Creanor. Her death was registered No.16 at Fauldhouse on the same day by George McKay, Father, Present.


1888 Mary Jane MacKay was born at 8h15m p.m. on Monday, August 20 at Greenburn, District of Fauldhouse to Catherine MacKay m.s. Trainer [sic] and George MacKay, Ironstone Miner who married on September 10, 1886 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Her birth was registered No.91 at Fauldhouse on September 27 by Catherine McKay, "her X mark", Mother.


1890 Arthur McKay was born at 8h45m p.m. on Wednesday, August 13 at School Rows, District of Fauldhouse to Catherine McKay m.s. Trainer [sic] and George McKay, Labourer who married on September 10, 1886 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. His birth was registered No.82 at Fauldhouse on September 22 by Catherine McKay, Mother.


1891 April 5 The family were living in Greenburn, Fauldhouse in a house with two windowed rooms.

1892 Catherine McKay was born at 5h15m a.m. on Friday, August 5 at Danbridge, District of Fauldhouse to Catherine McKay m.s. Trainer [sic] and George McKay, Coal Miner who married on September 10, 1886 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Her birth was registered No.99 at Fauldhouse on August 24 by George McKay, Father.


1894 William John McKay was born at 7h30m a.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at Blackfaulds, District of Fauldhouse to Catherine McKay m.s. Trainer [sic] and George McKay, Coal Miner who married on September 10, 1886 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. His birth was registered No.38 at Fauldhouse on April 11 by George McKay, Father, Present.


1896 Owen McKay was born at 4h40m a.m. on Monday, June 29 at Blackfaulds, District of Fauldhouse to Catherine McKay m.s. Trainer [sic] and George McKay, Coal Miner who married on September 10, 1886 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. His birth was registered No.67 at Fauldhouse on July 20 by Catherine McKay, Mother.


1898 David McKay was born at 2h0m p.m. on Monday, May 30 at Longridge, Whitburn to Catherine McKay m.s. Crenor [sic] and George McKay, Coal Miner who married on September 10, 1886 in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. His birth was registered No.52 at Whitburn on June 20 by George McKay, Father, Present.


1899 Alfred McKay was born at 8h30m a.m. on Sunday, October 22 at Longridge, Whitburn to Catherine McKay m.s. Crenor [sic] and George McKay, Coal Miner who married on September 10, 1886 in Edinburgh. His birth was registered No.97 at Whitburn on November 11 by George McKay, Father, Present.


1901 March 31 The family were living at Cleugh Rd, Longridge in a house with one windowed room.

1901 A second Margaret McKay was born at 10h0m a.m. on Saturday, July 13 at Longridge, Whitburn to Catherine McKay m.s. Creanor and George McKay, Coal Miner who married on September 10, 1886 in Edinburgh. Her birth was registered No.88 at Whitburn on July 16 by George McKay, Father, Present.


1901 Catherine McKay, Married to George McKay, Coal Miner died at 3h30m a.m. on Sunday, July 14 at Longridge, Whitburn, age 37 years, of Puerperium, 2 days, Heart Failure, 1 day, as certified by P. Thornton, MBCM. Her parents are recorded as Arthur Creanor, Iron Miner and Margaret Creanor m.s. Lynch. Her death was registered No.36 at Whitburn on July 16 by George McKay, Widower, Present.


1911 April 2 George and some of his children were living at Millycroft, Longridge in a house with two windowed rooms.
