The Family of Robert Greaves & Ann, c1812

At the moment, I think this is the family of Fanny Greaves who married John Hyslop in 1852 in Manchester, their daughter Margaret married Thomas McGee in 1875 in Manchester.

Most of this information has been obtained from the IGI, Batch C049631 Parish of Bakewell, Derbyshire 1813 - 1872. (Source Call 0497379 - Church of England Bishop's Transcripts 1614 - 1872)

Robert and Ann Greaves are named as the parents of the following children christened in Bakewell, Derbyshire.

Sarah - 3 Sep 1814

Robert - 5 Jan 1817

Ann - 19 May 1820

Fanny - 9 Feb 1823

Mary - 25 Nov 1827

Eliza - 16 Oct 1831

Now, if this is indeed our Fanny Greaves, then at the time of her marriage, she understated her age by 3 years, and if I have the correct 1881 Census entry, she has understated her age there by 8 years (and her husband John Hyslop has lost 7 years off his age, or whoever transcribed the entry misread an 8 as a 0).

1841 June 6 I do not think this is ours at Potternewton, Leeds. (Archive Ref. HO107, Piece 1348, Book 7)

Further, I think the following may be the children of the Robert above, christened in 1817, assuming he married someone named Elizabeth.

Robert - 7 Jun 1841

William - 30 Jul 1842

which is partly confirmed by a 1841 census entry for Bakewell, Derbyshire. (Archive Ref. HO107, Piece 183, Book 2, Folio 3, Page 1)

The 1881 Census (National Index) shows only one Robert Greaves born in Derbyshire in 1841 ± 5 years, he was born in Hathersage about 1837.

There are 4 William Greaves born in Derbyshire in 1842 ± 5 years, variously in Newhall, Ironville, Eckington and Shirland, none of which is near Bakewell.

The next step is to look for marriages in the appropriate time frames.
