1885 Patrick Canning and Sarah McGee were married on Friday, November 6, at St Paul's R.C. Church, Shettleston after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.63 at Shettleston on November 9.

Patrick was a Bachelor, gave his age as 26, occupation Coal Miner and usual residence 28 Baillies Causeway, Hamilton. His parents are recorded as Patrick Canning, Coal Miner and Rose Canning m.s. Barr (deceased).

Sarah was a Spinster, gave her age as 22 [she was nearer 24 if I've got this right], occupation Bleacher and usual residence Main Street, Tollcross. Her parents are recorded as John McGee, Labourer and Rose McGee m.s. Gallacher.

The celebrant was Fr Joseph Van Hecke and the witnesses were James McGee [her cousin?] & Catherine McGee [her sister? or her 14-year-old cousin?] who made "her X mark".

[A Hanah Canning was sponsor at the baptism of Sarah's cousin Catherine in October 1871.]


1891 April 5 William and Margaret were living at 19 High Patrick Street, Hamilton in a house with 2 windowed rooms. This was the only family at this address.

We have lost Rose - there is a death registered in Hamilton in 1891, age 1 (try 647-327) and another in Cambusnethan in 1894, age 0 (try 628-42) which may also be of interest.
