James Carroll was born on Sunday, May 1, 1881 at The Bell, Carfin to Mary Murphy (1859 - ) and William Carrol, Brickwork Labourer (c1856 - ). [See Section CA3-6-1 for family background.]

Christina Moffat was born on Friday, March 19, 1879 in Omoa, Shotts Parish to Elizabeth Moffatt, Farm Servant ( - ). Her father is named as John Allan, Farm Servant ( - ). [See Section MO-5-1 for family background.]


1904 On Friday, April 29, James Carroll and Christina Moffat were married at the R.C. Chapel, Cleland [St. Mary's], West Dist. of Shotts after Banns and Publication according to the Forms of the R.C. Church. The marriage was registered No.5 at Cleland on May 2.

James was a Bachelor, gave his age as 21 [he was 23], occupation Coalminer and usual residence Omoa Square, West Dist. of Shotts. His parents are recorded as William Carrol, Brickfield Worker and Mary Carrol m.s. Murphy.

Christina was a Spinster, gave her age as 22 [she was 25], occupation Brickfield Worker and usual residence also Omoa square, West Dist. of Shotts. Her mother is recorded as Elizabeth Moffat, Brickfield Worker. [No father named.]

The celebrant was Robert Paterson and the witnesses were Christopher Lonie and Mary Carrol [probably James's sister].
