William Rogan was born in Ireland about 1837 to Catherine Gilmour ( - ) and William Rogan, Seaman Merchant Service ( - before 1875).Mary Docherty was born in Ireland about 1840 to Mary Ann Curran ( - before 1873) and James Docherty, Labourer ( - ).
1859 William and Mary were married on Friday, May 6 in Co. Down, Ireland (according to Charles's birth registration).
William and Mary had the following children (that I know of) —
John born about 1860 in Ireland, married Agnes Lavery in 1886, last sighting 1911. William born about 1863 in Ireland, married Sarah Colvin in 1888 and died in 1936. James born about 1865 in Ireland, last sighting 1891. Catherine born in 1869 at Strangford, Co. Down, last sighting 1881. Charles born in 1872 at Clyde Iron Works, Tollcross, last sighting 1872. William had further children with his second wife, Mary Ann Goodwin.
1869 Catharine Rogan was born on Monday, May 31 in Ballynarry Townland to Mary Rogan m.s. Dokherty [sic] and William Rogan, Labourer. Her birth was registered No.16 at Strangford in the Union of Downpatrick, Co. Down on June 3 by Catharine Fillmore, "her X mark", Present at Birth.
[The townland is Ballinarry in Griffiths but there are no Rogans recorded there. There are two John Rogans in Balintlieve and a James in Raholp, all in the civil parish of Ballyculter which includes Strangford.
Baptismal records for Kilclief and Strangford cover January 1866 - July 1867 and October 1870 - September 1881 so if Catherine was baptised there, tough. Marriage records cover similar periods. Ballyculter records cover 1843 - 1882 but there is no Rogan marriage in 1859 and no Rogan baptisms in the 1860s.]
1871 April 2 This is the earliest reference I have found for the family in Scotland, living at Nobles Land (6 houses) in Fullarton, Tollcross in a house with one windowed room.

Son 5 do. and within a year they had moved the short distance across London Road to the village of Clyde Iron Works (south of the London Road opposite the end of Causewayside Street and demolished before 1943 to allow the expansion of the iron works, with most of the population moved to Carmyle).
Following Mary's death, William remarried.
Mary Ann Goodwin was born about 1842 in Ireland to Ann Carroll (c1820 - 1903) and George Goodwin (c1818 - ). Her family came to Scotland sometime around 1850 and settled at Clyde Iron Works, Tollcross. [See Section GW-5-1 for family background.]
1875 On Thursday, November 11, William Rogan and Mary Ann Goodwin were married in St. Mungo's Chapel, Glasgow after Banns. The marriage was registered No.353 at Glasgow (District of St. Rollox) two days later.
William was a widower, gave his age as 36, occupation Ironwork Furnaceman and usual residence as Clyde Iron Works, Old Monkland Parish. His parents are recorded as William Rogan, Seaman Merchant Service (deceased) and Catherine Rogan, m.s. Gilmour.
Mary Ann was a Spinster, gave her age as 33, occupation Bleachfield Worker and usual address as Millbank, Springburn. Her parents are recorded as George Goodwin, Ironwork Furnaceman and Ann Goodwin, m.s. Cairns. [Other references give Ann's maiden surname as Carrol(l).]
[I've not been able to identify a Millbank in Springburn, though there is a Millarbank Street, but there was a Milnbank Bleach Works in Townmill Road which I would consider to be in Dennistoun.]
The celebrant was by Fr. Raphael Gorga and the witnesses were Patrick McGee [not one of mine] and Elizabeth Hendrie. Patrick was the only one who could sign his name, William, Mary Ann and Elizabeth all made their marks.

Her birth was registered No.152 at Swinton, Baillieston in the District of Old Monkland West on the same day by William Rogin, "his X mark", Father, Tollcross, Present.
She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St. Paul's, Eastmuir on May 19 with sponsors Patrick Savage and Margaret Goodwin.
1878 George Rogin was born at 10h0m a.m. on Thursday, June 20 at Clyde Iron Works, Tollcross to Mary Ann Rogin m.s. Goodwin and William Rogin, Furnaceman who married on November 6 [sic], 1875 at Townhead, Glasgow. His birth was registered No.183 at Baillieston on June 24 by William Rogin, "his X mark", Father.
He was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St. Paul's, Eastmuir on June 30 with sponsors Bernard McCourt and Elizabeth Goodwin.
1880 Ann Rogin was born at 3h0m a.m. on Sunday, August 1 at Clyde Iron Works to Mary Ann Rogin m.s. Goodwin and William Rogin, Furnace Filler who married on November 4 [sic], 1875 at Townhead, Glasgow. Her birth was registered No.200 at Baillieston on August 5 by William Rogin, "his X mark", Father.
She was baptised by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St. Paul's, Shettleston on August 9 with sponsor Margaret Goodwin.
1881 April 3 The family were living in a house in which only one room had one or more windows at 46 Clyde Rows in the workmen's houses associated with the Clyde Iron Works. The household is listed as —

Goodwin and William Rogin, Furnace Filler who married on November 4 [sic], 1875 at Townhead, Glasgow. Her birth was registered No.87 at Baillieston on April 2 by William Rogin, "his X mark", Father.
She was baptised [as Margaret Rogan] by Fr. George McBrearty in the parish of St. Paul's, Shettleston on April 5 with sponsor Margaret Goodwin.
1886 On Tuesday, February 2, John married Agnes Lavery at St. Paul's RC Church, Shettleston. [See Section RG-7-1 for further information.]
1888 On Monday, January 2, William married Sarah Colvin in St. Paul's RC Church, Shettleston. [See Section RG-7-2 for further information.]
1891 April 5 The family were still at Clyde Iron Works, now in Brickiln Row but still having only one room with one or more windows. The household is listed as:

We have lost Kate (21) from the household. I have not looked for any explanation of her absence. However, I have looked for William & Sarah (Colvin) and have failed to find them, though they were in Tollcross in 1889 and in Dunlop [now Corbett] Street on September 9, 1891 when Maggie Rogan was born.
John & Agnes (Lavery) were living in Lightburn.
1896 William Rogan, Furnaceman, Married to 1st Mary Docherty, 2nd Mary Ann Goodwin, died at 11h55m a.m. on Friday, October 16 at 42 Claymill Row, Clyde [Iron Works], aged 51 [I think 58 would be nearer the mark] of Cardiac Disease after 2 months as certified by H. J. Cosgrove, Surgeon. His death was registered No.127 at Baillieston on the same day by John Rogan, Son, 42 Easterhill Street, Tollcross.
William's parents are recorded as John Rogan, Labourer and Catherine Rogan m.s. Gilmour, both deceased. When he married Mary Ann, he gave his father as William Rogan, Seaman Merchant Service so I suspect that this record is wrong.
There is an entry in the records of St. Peter's Cemetery, Dalbeth on October 18 for the burial of William Rogan, age 51, cause of death Heart Disease, in Lair 221, Section 8E (Title No.1390) and a fee of 12/6d. William is stated to be a "Friend" of the owner but was actually his father. The lair was previously used for the burial of James Rogan, son of William and Sarah (Colvin), who died on May 31, 1889, aged 7 months.
1901 March 31 The family were living at 45 Clyde Square in what seems to have become the village of Clyde, in a house with one windowed room.
