1868 On Friday, November 27, James Kerr and Sarah Sproule were married at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Carneorn [Ardstraw West] according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.46 in the Registrar's District of Castlederg in the Union of Castlederg in the County of Tyrone.

James was a Bachelor, of Full Age [21 or over], occupation Labourer and usual residence Meahy [Meaghy]. His father is recorded as James Kerr, Labourer.

Sarah was a Spinster, a Minor [under 21], occupation Servant and usual residence also Meahy. Her father is recorded as Joseph Sproule, Farmer.

The celebrant was Thomas Boyle and the witnesses were John Kerr and Sarah Holland.

Sarah signed, the others made their marks.

The marriage is noted in the Register of Marriages for Ardstraw West with Sarah's residence as Castlebane, celebrant R.B. McNamee and witnesses John Holland and Sarah Donaghey! The only things that match are the date and names of the bride and groom.

The townland of Meaghy (908 acres) is in the parish of Ardstraw in the Union of Strabane and Barony of Lower Strabane.
The townland of Castlebane (158 acres) is also in the parish of Ardstraw but in the Union of Castlederg and the Barony of Omagh West.

1914 James Kerr, Labourer, Married to Sarah Sproule, died at 6h0m p.m. on Saturday, September 12 at 50 Wellshot Road, Shettleston, Glasgow, age 75 years, of Gastro Enteritis, 10 days, as certified by J. Dunlop, MBChB. His parents are recorded as John Kerr, Labourer, and Sarah Kerr m.s. O'Neill, both deceased. His death was registered No.274 at Glasgow [Shettleston District] on September 14 by Sarah Farrell, Daughter, Present.

James Kerr (age 75) was buried on September 15 in St. Peter's Cemetery, Dalbeth, cause of death Debility and a fee of 16/6d was paid. James is said to be the Husband of the owner of the lair, 2557, section 15W, with title number 6240. The grave was opened to a depth of 8ft, the first burial in this lair.


1915 On Monday, February 15, Sarah married William Connor at St. Mark's Chapel, Shettleston. [See below for further information.]


1933 Sarah Kerr, Widow of James Kerr, Farm Labourer, died at 2h40m p.m. on Tuesday, July 4 at St Joseph's House, Garngadhill, age 84 years, of Cerebral Haemorrhage as certified by W.J. Davil, LRCP, LRCS. Her parents are recorded as Joseph Sproule, Farmer & Isabella Sproule m.s. Brown, both deceased. Her death was registered No.359 at Glasgow [Garngadhill District] on the following day by S.Connor, Daughter, 82 Springfield Road, Glasgow.

Sarah Kerr (age 84) was buried with James on July 7 in St. Peter's Cemetery, Dalbeth, location of death St. Joseph's House, and a fee of £2-5/- was paid. Sarah is said to be the owner of the lair, 2557, section 15W, with title number 6240.

Patrick Kerr was born on Sunday, January 16, 1881 in Strabane, Co. Tyrone to Sarah Sproule (c1852 - 1933) and James Kerr, Labourer (c1850 - 1914). [See top for family background.]

Elizabeth Colvin was born on Saturday, December 22, 1883 at Lightburn, Shettleston to Margaret McGee (1840 - 1905) and Daniel Colvin, Salt Storeman (1837 - 1917). [See Section CL-6-1 for family background.]


1909 On Tuesday, October 26, Patrick Kerr and Elizabeth Colvin were married at St. Paul's, Shettleston after Publication according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The marriage was registered No.113 at Shettleston on the same day.

Elizabeth was a Spinster, gave her age as 24 [she was 25], no occupation recorded, usual residence Lightburn, Shettleston. Her parents are recorded as Daniel Colvin, Road Surfaceman and Margaret Colvin m.s. McGhee, deceased.

Patrick was a Bachelor, gave his age as 28, occupation Railway Signalman and usual residence as 3 William [now Ardholm] Street, Shettleston.

The celebrant was Daniel Colvin, RC Clergyman [and bride's brother] and the witnesses were James Kerr and Margaret Rogan. [This could be her 18 year old niece, daughter of Sarah and William Rogan or possibly William's 23 year old half-sister.]

Elizabeth and Patrick emigrated to New South Wales.

1911 George Alexander Campbell was born at 11h30m p.m. on Friday, January 13 at 4 Mill Street, Tillicoultry to Mary Campbell m.s. Kerr and Alexander Campbell, Coalminer who married on June 22, 1906 at Shettleston, Glasgow. His birth was registered No.11 at Tillicoultry on January 30 by Alexr Campbell, Father, Present.
